Rachel McAdams, “This Skirt” and a Sewing Machine

Rachel McAdams just happens to be one of my all-time favorite actors. From Regina George in Mean Girls to Amy in The Family Stone to Inez in Midnight in Paris…I could go on. Hmm…I just realized that I’ve never seen The Notebook. It’s probably for the best. I’ll just assume she is amazing in it as well.

Not only are her acting skills awesome but in my mind she also has a great sense of style. I mean, how many girls can pull off pink highlights or this red Marchesa dress SO WELL? Not that many…

So when I came across this picture of her in a November 2010 issue of InStyle magazine I immediately tore it out and tacked it up on my wall. I love this lilac Miu Miu skirt that she’s wearing plus the way it was styled – she just looks amazingly chic and comfortable in it.

Over the past few years, I have been dying to recreate this skirt because I still love it (and I obviously would not spend that much money on it). Since one my 30 Before 30 goals was to sew a skirt out of fabric – I thought I would go ahead and take the plunge by making this one. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a soft lilac-colored fabric so I opted for mint green instead. My take on the skirt is a bit different than the original but I think it turned out just as cute. I wish I could show you guys how to do it but I was working on a whim here. I wasn’t entirely sure how I was eventually going to get it all put together. It was a bit more complicated than I expected and it took an entire day to do. (One of these days, I’ll post a piece on how to make a more simple skirt out of fabric).

I’m still pretty proud of the way this skirt came together and it’s definitely as cozy as it looks in her picture. I opted not to pose in the same way she is, as it probably wouldn’t be a pretty sight but here is one way that I’ve styled it so far.

I doubt I’ll ever be able to sport certain looks like Rachel McAdams but I’m pretty sure I’ll never stop loving her style and especially not her movies. Now only if she’d get back together with Ryan Gosling (!)

    • Thanks! I’m so glad you told me that you prefer the mint-green. I was really hesitant about buying it because I wasn’t sure how often I would wear it, but I do like it a lot now that I think about it.
