My Five Favorite Winter-Wear Trends: One

With winter just around the corner, I thought I’d share my 5 favorite fashion trends for the season. So every day this week I’ll post a little piece with images of various outfits that I’ve worn incorporating at least one of my favorite winter items. (Side note: This week’s pictures were all shot in my backyard so let’s just pretend that you don’t see all the gardening tools and pots in the background!)

Layering has to be one of my favorite fall/winter trends. It’s when I can experiment with different colors, textures and fabrics without sweating or looking like a complete idiot, especially in Houston.

I’ve also gone ahead and taken images of each one of these pieces to show you how I layered everything together. For this outfit, I just took the various specks of color from the dress – mustard and black and layered two shirts on top of the dress in the same colors; still incorporating black – I put on some leggings and boots. The rich brown/caramel color of the jacket somehow allows it to go with anything and since it’s one of my go-to pieces – I threw it on with this outfit.

At first, the red satchel might seem a bit out of place but because it’s a darker shade – I think it goes well with the rest of the outfit. Layering is fairly simple once you start getting the hang of it. With skirts or dresses, try and use colors that are found on the piece to layer items with. Then you can move on to different prints if you’d like – plaid and stripes, polka dots and stripes, stripes on stripes and of course, there is always color-blocking. This is your chance to get craaazy!

Dress – TJ Maxx, Black Tie Top – Old Navy, Mustard Sweater, Leggings, Jacket, Satchel – Target, Hat – F21

Check back tomorrow for my second winter-wear tip and don’t forget to “like” my Facebook page for notifications of new posts, especially since I’ll be posting every day this week!
