I bought this cardigan from Target almost 4 years ago, at that time I was working in retail banking and naturally wore it with black pants, a black top, and black pumps. Now that I think about it, it’s completely business appropriate but at the same time it’s boring – which is kind of a waste for such a pretty sweater.
Since my style has slightly evolved over the last few years, I’ve become more open to pattern mixing. When I saw these two tops hanging in my closet – I thought I’d go ahead and give it a try. I must say I do really like the pattern combo – it makes the cardigan look a bit more interesting even though the lace detailing already gives it that look.
I went ahead and took a more casual take on this ensemble and paired it with dark denim skinny jeans and these green flats for a pop of color. So as to not throw too many things in the mix I kept with the black theme and added this collared necklace to it and completed it with my new favorite bag.
These days the key to business wear is to think outside the box and learn to mix different patterns, colors and fabrics together. It’ll drastically improve your outlook on work wear and at the same time you might find that something you’d normally wear going out can easily be incorporated into your work wardrobe.

By the way, it bothers me just as much as it might bother you that I’m looking down or away in almost every single one of these pictures! By the time, I finished looking at all the pictures it was too late to go back out and take a couple of more shots since I had already changed into my sweats and was waiting to watch Terra Nova. So please don’t take this as “What a snob – she didn’t even look at us.” – I promise I didn’t mean too!
Have a great weekend!
