Back to the 90s

I’m not quite sure why I love this dress. Maybe it’s the pockets, the exposed zipper on the back or the fact that I got it on clearance for a mere $5.99 (brought down from $30.00). The dress has a bit of a retro feel to it – almost like something you might see on an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. When I first put it on I felt like I was being taken back to the 90s; I think it’s the Aztec like print and colors.

Even though the dress is a size too big for me, I had to have it and for 6 bucks I was willing to sew it in to make it fit. Now, I’m not the best seamstress in the world but from time to time I can sew a mean stitch. All I really did for this dress was shorten the straps a bit so that it would fit better on my bust and wouldn’t just hang from my shoulders. Instead of taking in the dress from the waist, I put on a belt.

The belt creates a clean silhouette while adding a sharp contrast to the subtle black and crème detailing of the dress. I used the belt as the inspiration piece for my accessories by sticking with various shades of tan and black. The rest of the dress speaks for itself – it has everything you could possibly think of – pockets, an exposed zipper, fun colors, stripes, a great cut…I could go on and on. I’m pretty sure by now you’ve realized its one of my favorite pieces in my closet.

It also coincides with number one on my summer-sentials piece along with vibrant nail polish colors, such as hot pink and sea green like I have on here, as well as wedges.
