I don’t want to brag but I do have to say that I have a great group of friends who are not only passionate about what they do but also take that passion and continually strive to better the community and people around them. With that being said I’d like to give a shout out to one of my very best friends, Sheebani S. Patel, for being featured in the New York Times! She’s always followed what she believes in and continues to do so both in her professional and personal life. I’m so proud of you – you’re definitely an inspiration to me and to lots of other people! Check out her article Asian New Yorkers Seek Power to Match Numbers to see what she’s been up to.
I’d also like to give a shout out to the sky for providing Houston with some RAIN! Of course, it’s not enough to lift the firework burn ban nor relieve us from this drought, but it did provide us with more hot, humid and sticky days. Yes!
Speaking of rain, a few weeks ago I was ready to buy some cute, striped rain boots from Target, then I thought to myself – it hasn’t rained in weeks, so I opted not to buy them. I regretted it the other day, when it was pouring and my wonderful mother made me go out in the rain, with just an umbrella and PJs to walk her to her car, while holding an umbrella over her head. Awesome.
I used to dread getting dressed on rainy days – my shoes would get wet, my socks, the bottom of my jeans, my hair would be a mess, sometimes I’d forget my umbrella or grab the one that would poke your eye out if you tried to open it…
Now, I think I’ve learned how to accept rainy days and avoid looking like a scary monster – wearing shorter pants, patent/plastic shoes or rain boots, avoiding wearing too much black, putting my hair up and of course, carrying a brightly colored umbrella (or wearing colorful rain boots). Nothing says dreary, dull rainy morning more than a black umbrella.
I like to think of umbrellas as an accessory, granted I don’t need to carry one for too long since in Houston all we have to do is get to and from our cars, but I think carrying a nicer, colorful, automatic umbrella can make a difference. To me, their a bit ironic as a colorful umbrella can add just a bit of sunshine and fun to dreary rainy day.
Hopefully, we’ll get some more rain over the weekend. As of right now, I can just anticipate having to clean the little surprises the birds left on my car with my own hose and water instead of relying on a downpour.
