A Fashionable Commencement Speech

Last February, I wanted to learn how to play the guitar – 6 months ago is when I finally decided to give it a try. So far, I’ve taught myself how to play two songs – Name by The Goo Goo Dolls and Wonderwall by Oasis. I played the later at my cousin’s graduation party and after months of consistently practicing the song and knowing it – my nerves still got the best of me and I ended up really screwing up the beginning of the song. As a person who constantly strives for perfection (one of my many good and bad traits) – this didn’t sit too well with me and I’ve been beating myself up about it ever since.

Though, it’s been a few days I’m still not completely over the fact that I practiced so hard for something and still managed to get it wrong but then again, Aren’t these mistakes we make so that we can learn from it and do better the next time? All I can do is pick my head back up, learn to focus and start playing again because when you’re passionate about something – you most definitely don’t want anything to let you down – you just got to learn to overcome it. (Personally, I think this should be a standard line in any graduation or commencement speech!)

Talking about graduation speeches reminds of what I wore to the ceremony. Since, temperatures are already starting to hit the triple digits here – I needed something that was summery, casual yet formal and light so that I could wear it for a long period of time.

If you can, opt out of wearing black when you know you’re going to be in really high temperatures. Black absorbs heat and causes you to feel extremely hot; which is why I decided to go with a lighter color fabric.

I paired this ruffle dress with a black, gold, and nude color bracelet with a studded silver bracelet (accented from the silver triangles on the other bracelet) to highlight the black on the dress. I opted to wear a pair of nude heels (instead of black) to add a more summery touch to the outfit (black would have made it too formal for a graduation ceremony) and it also stems from the nude detailing on the bracelet.

I kept my makeup pretty minimal since it was a day event and I knew I’d be outside in the heat – the last thing I needed was my make-up dripping down my face. Now If only I could have frolicked in the sprinkler system.
